Introduction
Please note that original documents must be provided with your application, and these will be returned to you. Chinese language documents are acceptable, however it is preferred that the documents are accompanied by English translations. All supporting documents must be clear and legible.
We reserve the right to verify any documents lodged with your application with a document issuing authority, a relevant third party, or via document examination techniques. Applications containing false or misleading information will most likely be refused. We expect you to advise us of any changes to the information you have provided as soon as the change happens.
Please note: This is a guide only. Further information and/or documents may be requested during the processing of your application to assist our assessment. Please contact us should you have any questions about any of the listed documentary requirements.
Documentary Requirements
• Form 118 - Application For Australian Citizenship By Descent;
• Visa application charge;
• Original Birth Certificate of child;
• Endorsed passport sized photograph of the child (see Form 118 for further information);
•Evidence that at least one parent was an Australian citizen at the time of the applicant’s birth, such as full birth certificate or certificate of Australian citizenship or an Australian Citizen passport
•Evidence of citizenship status of the other parent such as passport, birth certificate or identification card
•Marriage certificate (if married)
If not married, evidence of defacto relationship such as:
- a statement in English about your relationship including when and where you met, whether you live together and what your future plans are
- statements from friends and relatives attesting to your relationship
- joint bank accounts or evidence of joint ownership of property.
• Applicants aged 18 or over will require a police certificate from all countries they have lived in if, in the last 10 years:
- they have lived or travelled overseas since the age of 18 years or over
- the total time spent overseas added up to 12 months or more
- the time spent in any one country was more than 90 days
- they are requested to do so by the department.
(If they are applying outside Australia, then Australia should be considered an overseas country.)
• If the Australian citizen parent is an Australian citizen by descent, we will also require evidence of that parent's 2 years residence in Australia (eg. passport showing entry to Australia, school or employment records, any documents issued by an Australian Government agency).
•Please also provide the following documents at time of lodgement:
- family photos (maximum of 3) with mother, father and child.
- Recent passport sized photos of mother, father and child
