Back to Visas and Citizenship

From 1 August 2013 all applications lodged in person at the Beijing AVAC will be processed ‘Passport Free’.

This means that passports will no longer be forwarded to the Australian Consulate/Embassy with the application. Copies of the passport will be forwarded in place of the original.

Additional requirements for subclass 400 and 600 applicants

In addition to providing a copy of passports, applicants for Temporary Work (subclass 400) and Visitor (subclass 600) visas must provide copies of the following documents:

• Family Registration booklet (hukou)
• National ID card

Photocopy requirements

• Copies of passports, hukous and National ID cards may be colour or black and white
• Applicants may provide their own copies or use photocopy facilities available at the AVAC (for a fee)
• For current passports, copies of the bio-data page, back page and all pages containing a visa, stamp or signature must be provided (except for Family Migration applications where only a copy of the bio-data page and back page of the passport is required)

*Please note that for most applications it is a requirement to provide two copies of the passport bio-data page. Please refer to the relevant document checklist for details.
