Utopia – A Picture Story
Utopia – A Picture Story is a collection of works on silk by eight-eight mostly female artists from Utopia, an Aboriginal community in Australia’s Northern Territory. The silks tell the stories of the Dreaming, the creation epics that originally shaped the landscape; they are about individual and collective affiliation to ‘country’ and the responsibility to maintain the land through ritual, ceremony and respect for traditional law. The collection is on loan from Western Australia’s Holmes à Court Collection.
Utopia – A Picture Story will be on display at the National Art Museum of China from 20-30 March 2008.
The exhibition is generously sponsored by Tourism Australia and Sino Gold Mining Limited and is presented in partnership with the China Society for the Promotion of Culture and Art Development.
