Australian Embassy is seeking expressions of interest from suitably qualified person to fill the position of Senior Manager (Research, LE6-LE8), at the Australian Education International (AEI), Beijing. Please see the attachments for the job description and selection criteria.

The Environment

Australian Education International (AEI) is the international arm of the Australian Government Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR). AEI’s National Office in Canberra, Australia, provides policy support and development of international education; international representation at multi-lateral and bi-lateral meetings; quality assurance and consumer protection for international students; and advice on qualifications recognition. It is supported in its work by a network of 26 offices located overseas.

In the People’s Republic of China (PRC), AEI is represented at the Australian Embassy Beijing and the Australian Consulates-General in Shanghai, Guangzhou and Hong Kong (SAR). The AEI Beijing Office has overall responsibility for AEI’s activities in the PRC. It supports Australia’s engagement in international education, research and training in China through a wide range of activities, inlcuding: working with relevant Ministries and Agencies of the PRC; supporting activities of Australian education providers in China; providing strategic intelligence to Australian education providers on education and research in the PRC; and promoting Australia as a high quality provider of international education services.


Job Description

The position is under the general direction of the Minister Counsellor (Education), who is the senior representative in China for DEEWR. Key duties and tasks include:

The position requires strong conceptual and analytical skills.


Selection Criteria

1. Excellent written and oral communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with key stakeholders in government and industry in China and Australia;

2. Strong conceptual and analytical skills especially relating to education and enhancing Australia’s international relationships in China, or an ability to quickly gain competency in these areas;


3. Ability to effectively organise, plan and deliver complex research projects, including the ability to plan and manage resources in several offices in China to achieve high quality and timely outcomes;

Desirable

4. A good level of proficiency in both written and spoken Chinese.
