Visa Evidencing - Shanghai Visa Office
On this page: Important messages; How to obtain your visa label and Visa re-evidencing due to lost or re-issued passport
Important Messages
You must not finalise any travel arrangements until after you have had your visa evidenced.
Visas are not evidenced on the same day that the passport is received by the Visa Office. Details on processing times are below.
How to obtain your visa label
To arrange for a visa label to be placed in a passport, please send the following documentation to the Shanghai Visa Office using China Post’s Express Mail Service - EMS :
• the passport/s;
• a copy of the approval letter;
• an EMS label with the return address; and
• a copy of a China Post money order receipt to the value of CNY 20 so that passport/s can be promptly returned to you by EMS .
The address of the Shanghai Visa Office is:
Visa Office, Australian Consulate General
Suite 406, Shanghai Centre
1376 Nanjing West Road, Shanghai 200040
China Post's money order form can only be completed in Chinese (请注意收款人的地址为上海市南京西路1376号上海商城西峰401室,收款人为澳大利亚驻沪总领事馆签证处).
A passport sent via EMS will usually be returned to you within 4 working days if you are in Shanghai or within 7 working days to an address elsewhere in China.
Passports that are not sent to the Consulate via EMS or are not accompanied by a CNY 20 money order will be returned by registered post after visa evidencing.
If you need to visit the Consulate office to have visas evidenced, you must make an appointment to do this before visiting the visa office. Appointments can be made by emailing the Visa Office at immigration.shanghai@dfat.gov.au. You will need to include the following details: your full name, date of birth, passport number, and file number.
Please note that due to the high demand for appointments it may be two weeks before an appointment can be scheduled. It is therefore recommended that you use the EMS service or registered post.
For your own use, please take note of the EMS Number, both for the mail that you send to visa office for visa evidencing and for the EMS label that you fill with your return address. If you would like to inquire whether or when your mail for visa evidencing has been received by visa office or whether or when your passport has been returned to your address by EMS, this information can be obtained from the website www.EMS.com.cn
