Research Officer

The Embassy of Australia is seeking expressions of interest from suitably qualified person (Chinese Nationals only) to fill the position of Research Officer. Position will be offered at LE6-LE7 level depending on qualifications and experience. Monthly remuneration package of LE6-LE7 is round CNY 11,815.37 to CNY 13,141.76. Please find attached Duty Statement and Selection Criteria for details.

2. have graduated from college for at least one year

The Environment
Australian Education International (AEI) is the international arm of the Australian Government’s Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations. AEI’s National Office in Canberra, Australia, provides policy support and development of international education; international representation at multi-lateral and bi-lateral meetings; quality assurance and consumer protection for international students; and advice on qualifications recognition. It is supported in its work by a network of 26 offices located overseas.
In the People’s Republic of China (PRC), AEI is represented at the Australian Embassy Beijing and the Australian Consulates-General in Shanghai, Guangzhou and Hong Kong (SAR). The AEI Beijing Office has overall responsibility for AEI’s activities in the PRC. It supports Australia’s engagement in international education, research and training in China through a wide range of activities such as: working with the relevant Ministries and Agencies of the PRC, supporting the activities of Australian education providers in China, providing strategic intelligence to Australian education providers on education and research developments in the PRC and promoting Australia as a high quality provider of international education services.
Job Description
- Monitor media and other sources for information on Chinese education and training statistics, policies and regulatory developments and prepare regular reports and commentary to the Minister-Counsellor (Education), Counsellor (Education) and Senior Manager Research on key issues affecting Australian education interests in China.
- Prepare draft Market Intelligence Reports and Alerts for the AEI Website Portal (www.aei.dest.gov.au) on significant education and research issues and developments in China, as part of AEI’s market information service for Australian education providers.
- Undertake research tasks and assist in project work, such as the provision of translation and interpretation services and managing visits.
- Provide assistance to senior staff in liaison with government departments, institutions and other relevant contacts;
- Draft presentations and speeches as required;
- Work as part of the team to ensure high quality translated content on the studyinaustralia website, monthly e-Newsletters and other published materials.
- Monitor and report on Australia-China cooperative education and training activities.
Selection Criteria
- Written and oral communication skills of a high order, including fluency in Chinese and English including ability to translate and interpret as required
- Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to liaise at a high level with senior representatives from government and the education industry
- Ability to produce detailed and accurate work in a timely manner under limited supervision
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Chinese education and training system policies and trends
- Demonstrated experience in the use of computer applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint.
