Job Title: Senior Business Development Manager

Austrade has a job vacancy in Beijing as a Senior Business Development Manager. This is a senior role in the Beijing team that also reports to the China Services Team leader (Trade Commissioner) regarding the management and co-ordination of the Austrade China Services team.

As well as individual responsibilities, a key value-add for this role is to provide input into the development and implementation of marketing plans and initiatives that seek to identify and capture opportunities to develop Australian service exports to China and Australia-China two-way investment. As a senior member of the marketing team in North China, there is also a requirement to represent the organization with key Chinese stakeholders and mentor junior staff members in the North China team.

Duties:

• Support the China Services Team leader to lead, manage and work with the China Services team, including co-ordinating fellow BDM staff to deliver on Austrade’s objectives in service sectors in China. This includes development of marketing plans and initiatives, allocation of tasks within the team, and working with the team to find solutions to complex issues.

• Identify and capture opportunities to develop Australian services / financial services exports to China and Australia-China two-way investment by providing a range of Austrade services that add value to Australian companies, and profile Australian services / financial services capability in China.

• Project manages designated promotional activities under the guidance of the Trade Commissioner.

• Constantly monitor market developments in the Chinese services sector to provide insight and strategic advice to Australian companies. Establish and maintain relationships with key in-market companies, industry players, government agencies and allies in areas of mutual benefit to Australia.

• Ensure team members understand their role, utilise Austrade systems effectively, and adhere to Austrade policies in carrying out their work.

• Exercise sound judgement to effectively advance Australian interests in a complex business environment and international context.

• Oversee and be responsible for the delivery of value-added business matching activities such as trade displays, inbound and outbound missions, investor events and market visits, in order to achieve performance targets.

• Actively apply Austrade business practices and maintain accuracy of information in all Austrade Business Systems to deliver accurate and timely reporting and effective relationship management.

• Contribute to knowledge creation within Austrade, by adopting information practices, sharing knowledge and information and by embracing best practice and development opportunities.

• Work collaboratively within the Austrade network to contribute to service delivery and achieve desired outcomes, while upholding the APS Values and Code of Conduct and work health & safety principles

Selection Criteria:

1. Demonstrated ability and experience in: leading others by example and by direction; align the work of team members with goals and objectives set by Management; encourage and foster cooperative behaviour between team members to achieve individual and collective team goals.

2. Demonstrated ability to initiate, formulate and implement strategic plans and advice in business, including an ability and willingness to adapt to organizational, personnel and market changes.

3. Sound understanding of the development and future potential of the China Services sector. Be able to leverage this knowledge to identify opportunities, buyers and investors of relevance to Australian business.

4. An understanding of Australia’s export and investment capability in the Services sectors, and a track record of achievement in export and/or investment facilitation.

5. High level skills in dealing in the China business and government environment and providing practical and strategic advice to business operating within this complex environment.

6. Demonstrated good judgment in the context of working for a foreign government organization that liaises with both Chinese business and government.

7. Highly developed communication skills, with the ability to successfully represent Australia and Austrade, and the ability to negotiate and communicate at all levels of government and with other stakeholders.

 8. Fluent in written and spoken English and Mandarin Chinese.
