Victorian State Election

Saturday 29 November 2014

The Victorian state election will be held on Saturday 29 November 2014. If you are enrolled to vote for an electorate in Victoria, and you will be out of Australia on polling day, you may submit an early vote either in-person at the Australian Embassy in Beijing or via a postal vote. Electors who wish to vote in person can visit Australian Embassy in Beijing from Wednesday 19 November 2014 when ballot papers will become available. Those who wish to vote by mail are reminded that the postal vote application needs to reach the Australian Embassy by 27 November 2014 in order for the application to be accepted.

Voting in Person

Ballot papers will become available for voting in-person at the Australian Embassy during business hours from Wednesday 19 November until Friday 28 November. Please note on Election Day, Saturday 29 November 2014, the Australian Embassy will not be open for voting.

Please also note that voting facilities will not be available at the Australian Consulates-General in Shanghai, Guangzhou or Chengdu. Australians living in these regions who wish to vote will need to either visit Beijing or apply for a postal vote.

Postal Voting

Victorian residents unable to visit the Australian Embassy in person may cast a vote by post. You must apply for a postal vote in order to have ballot papers sent to you. Postal vote application forms and instructions for submitting a postal vote are available from the VEC website: http://www.vec.vic.gov.au/Voting/PostalVoting.html#pvapplications

Completed postal vote application forms must be returned to the Australian Embassy by Thursday 27 November 2014. However given lengthy postal delivery times to some areas of China, you should complete and mail them as early as possible to allow time for ballot papers to be posted to you prior to election-day.
