Title: Business Development Manager

Austrade is looking for a professional and energetic talent to join our team in Beijing as a Business Development Manager.
This position, located at Austrade Beijing office, will report to the Trade Commissioner. The key responsibility is to identify and capture opportunities to develop the export of Australian products and services to China, specifically in Beijing and North China region.

Duties:
• Identify and capture opportunities to increase Australian exports and outward investment to the China market by providing a wide range of quality and timely services to Australian companies.
• Undertake market research, across various industry sectors that match Australian capability and suitability for the Chinese market, assess and compile company information, provide strategic advice to Australian companies seeking to develop business relationships and strategic alliances with Chinese companies and government agencies.
• Constantly develop new market contacts and networks across a number of industry sectors including Provincial and District government agencies, state owned enterprises, industry bodies and private sector. Supporting Australian industry to build and grow relevant networks such as universities, major sectors/categories of growth in China and development zones and areas.
• Track the ongoing development of the commercial environment in the sectors, and be able to relate this to the needs of Australian exporters.
• Efficiently manage changing workloads, flexibility in covering a variety of industries, large numbers of clients/customers, within internally and externally driven timeframes.
• Develop methods for proactively promoting/identifying business opportunities for Australian clients from various industries. Provide quality market insight and assistance for Australian clients seeking to access the Chinese market.
• Independently organise trade visits, missions and arranging visit programs.
• Maintain Austrade standards and policies, including diversity in the workplace, ethical practice and occupational health and safety principles and compliance with audit requirements.

Selection Criteria:
1. Relevant experience in a business development related role, preferably in an international or foreign government organisation setting.
2. Good understanding of the capabilities and operating environment of the Australian international business.
3. Ability to be outcome focused, an innovative problem solver, combined with sound judgment in the context of working for a foreign government organization.
4. Highly developed oral and written communication skills in both English and Mandarin, with proven ability to successfully represent Australia and Austrade, and to negotiate and communicate at all levels of government and with other stakeholders.
5. Proven ability to learn quickly, work under pressure, and to manage conflicting work priorities and deadlines independently with limited supervision.
6. Proven ability to work as part of a team across different industry teams and multiple locations in a performance driven culture.
